Vision for Zambia Project Update
It’s been six months since you helped us raise an amazing £1.9m during our Vision for Zambia campaign so we thought we’d provide you with a little update on what’s happened since then.
The money you raised will help treat tens of thousands of children across the Copperbelt province of Zambia, one of the poorest countries in the world with over 10 million people living in poverty.
Half of the population are children who are around five times more likely to suffer from blindness than those living in developed countries.
Thanks to you we can now do something about it. Here’s what’s happened so far.
We created a comprehensive list of ophthalmic equipment needed across the whole province and procurement will now start.
50 volunteers have been trained to refer children with suspected eye conditions for appropriate treatment.
A radio awareness project is in development with the Children’s Radio Foundation, through which public health messages will be broadcast to promote eye health and the services available, across the Copperbelt.
- Facilitated film screenings are about to take place to raise awareness and promote uptake of eye health services.
