Established in 2015 IOLLA (meaning “sight” in the Gaelic language) is a business aimed at making shopping for eyewear simple, affordable and fun.  They have worked hard to streamline the process of bringing eyewear to customers by designing glasses in house and partnering straight with the factories so that they can provide higher-quality, better-looking eyewear at a fraction of the current high street price.

To celebrate their first anniversary of trading, the team at IOLLA decided it was time to bring their pledge of contributing to the prevention and treatment of sight loss around the world to life! Under the umbrella of “Live by Giving”, one of the companies four key values, IOLLA has chosen to partner with an eye health charity, and we’re delighted that they have selected Orbis.  It was the Orbis Flying Eye Hospital that initially caught their eye, but after looking into our work more they have selected Orbis as their partner because they believe in the sustainability of our approach of training eye health professionals in developing countries to improve the level of eye care that is available.

IOLLA has begun the partnership with a donation to Orbis, and are looking at ways that the partnership can grow going forwards.  The business is keen to share content on social media and engage their employees and customers with stories of the great work of Orbis around the world.  IOLLA are proud that their initial donation will be used by Orbis wherever the need is greatest, but the equivalent of their level of support has previously  funded one of the following:

• 28 sight saving trachoma surgeries
• 125 cataract surgeries on the Flying Eye Hospital
• 150 people educated about the importance of eye care
• Training for 9 community health workers

IOLLA hopes its initiatives under “Live by Giving” will inspire others to act socially too, read more here
