Orbis UK is an affiliate of Orbis International, a global charity that brings people together to fight avoidable blindness. Our mission is to transform lives through access to quality eye care. Together with our partners we train eye teams, strengthen eye health systems and work on the ground to provide lasting solutions to communities in need.

Our Mission

To transform lives through access to quality eye care.

With the help of our amazing partners and supporters we’ve been a pioneer in the prevention and treatment of blindness for more than 30 years. Since 1982 we've conducted training programmes in over 92 countries and trained hundreds of thousands of medical professionals.

We have over 60 long-term projects around the world across countries including India, Bangladesh, Nepal, China, Vietnam, Ethiopia, South Africa, Ghana, Zambia, Cameroon, Peru, Mongolia and Indonesia. Visit  Where We Work for more information.

Our Vision

Orbis envisions a world where no one is needlessly blind or visually impaired.

We have trained hundreds of thousands of doctors, nurses, biomedical engineers and eye care workers over the past 32 years. In 2016 alone we carried out over 3.5 million screenings and examinations.

We work where the need for eye care is greatest and where we can do the most good. In the last 32 years, we have conducted training projects in over 92 countries, over 78 with the Flying Eye Hospital. We always work closely with governments and health ministries to deliver quality eye care.

We strive for excellence in everything we do - from our world leading volunteers to our state-of-the-art Flying Eye Hospital. Only the best training and practices will be passed on.
