There is so much exciting work to come in the year ahead, with Orbis teams and the Flying Eye Hospital carrying out sight-saving missions in many of the world’s poorest countries. Your donations have never been more needed as Orbis strives to meet its ambitious targets for Operation Sight.
Happy New Year from Orbis – we have huge plans for 2018!
January 2018
It’s Ann-Marie here, NHS ophthalmic nurse and, for over a decade now, medical volunteer for Orbis. As another year begins, I wanted to write and tell all our supporters about Orbis’s exciting plans for 2018.
On a personal note, I can’t wait for my next chance to share my expertise and help treat people wherever the need is greatest. I’m sure I’ll be writing a new blog post soon, with details of my next volunteer journey with Orbis. Watch this space for an update!
Before long you can also read an update on the Flying Eye Hospital’s most recent trip to Bangladesh, at the very end of last year. I know the training programme was a great success so I hope you’ll keep a lookout for the complete story – coming soon…
Also to come will be a full picture of Orbis’s plans for 2018. This is the last year of Operation Sight, so I know we’re going to have some very ambitious targets to hit before the end of December. I am supremely confident that we can do it, as long as we all remain committed to supporting our cause. Your donations really do make a massive difference.

Just think: right now, somewhere in the world, is a child who cannot see. Little does he or she know that Orbis is coming, and we are bringing a sight-saving treatment that is going to open up the brightest possible future for this little boy or girl.
That’s the image that keeps me doing what I do. I hope it inspires you as much as it does me. Here’s to the best year yet for Orbis and the fight against avoidable blindness!
