The resolution not only asks it’s members to recognise eye care as an important part of their health coverage plans, but also calls for financial institutions and donors to provide support to tackle preventable vision loss.
UN commits to eye care for all by 2030
The United Nations has passed its first resolution dedicated to vision loss, backed by all 193 members, to incorporate eye health into the Sustainable Development Goals.

With the UNs target of achieving comprehensive eye care for all by 2030, we are committed to continuing to play our part in bringing eye care to those who don’t have access to it.
“Poor vision can severely impact lives in so many ways, from halting an education in its tracks, to affecting more women than men. The Sustainable Development Goals are intertwined, and this decision has the ability to truly make a difference for the 90% of the world’s visually impaired who live in low- and middle-income countries. Now more than ever, partnerships and funding are vital to achieving these very necessary targets.”
