Vision for Zambia success

Orbis UK’s Vision for Zambia project concluded after five years in September 2021. With support from the UK Government’s Aid Match Scheme, the project aimed to expand and strengthen services across Zambia’s Copperbelt Province (ten districts).

The project focused on raising awareness around eye health and improving eye health at all levels – from screening to treatment. We worked with community groups including traditional healers who were previously the go-to for eye health complaints.

Through the project, we supported the establishment of eye care units at several hospitals . We also helped carry out 179,323 paediatric screenings, prescribed 2,600 pairs of glasses and supported nearly 2,500 surgeries.

For children like David, Rachael and triplets Shakaina, Mildith and Stephania, the project meant that they could enjoy their childhoods and play with friends free from the limitations which are often caused by having an eye condition.
