In the interview, Michelle shared details about her recent two weeks volunteering with Orbis in Mongolia, where she trained local anaesthetists, both aboard our Flying Eye Hospital, and in partner hospitals. The broadcast showcased footage of Michelle and her trainees practicing anaesthesia techniques using mannequins and simulation equipment, aimed at enhancing eye care for adults and children in Mongolia
Orbis UK Volunteer featured on ITV Channel News
We are delighted to share that Dr. Michelle Le Cheminant, an Orbis UK volunteer and Consultant Anaesthetist at the Medical Specialist Group in Guernsey, was recently featured on ITV Channel News.
“Simulation is really useful because it allows you to practice emergency scenarios. Many of the trainees in lower and middle-income countries haven’t experienced this type of training before so it’s quite a different way of working for them and we get a lot of positive feedback.”Dr. Michelle Le Cheminant
In a touching moment, Michelle recalled sharing chocolate from the Channel Islands with a post-surgery patient who reminded her of her grandmother. The Flying Eye Hospital’s visit to Mongolia helps local doctors learn and perfect their skills before performing surgeries on real patients. The new skills and techniques learned during the 3 weeks will help their communities for years to come.

Since 2017, Michelle has taken part in seven Orbis training programmes, in countries including Vietnam, Zambia and China. Alongside other Orbis volunteers, Michelle is playing a key role in transforming lives by expanding eye care for those who need it most.
