This Year, Eye Will… New Year’s Resolutions for Better Eye Health

A new year is the perfect time to make promises that truly matter, and your eyes deserve a place on that list. Healthy vision helps you enjoy life fully, and small habits now can make a big difference.

1. I Will Protect My Eyes From Uv and Everyday Hazards

UV rays can damage the lens of the eye and increase the risk of cataracts and other conditions. Even on cloudy days, sun protection matters.

Tip: Wear sunglasses labelled “UV400” or with a CE/UKCA mark and add a wide-brimmed hat for extra protection.

2. I Will Take Regular Breaks From Screens

Hours spent on phones, laptops, and tablets can cause eye strain, dryness, and irritation, especially in cold or dry indoor environments.

Tip: Blink often, look away from screens, and focus on distant objects for a few seconds every 20 minutes.

3. I Will Care for My Glasses and Contact Lenses Properly

Simple habits keep your glasses and contacts working well: store glasses face-up in a hard case, clean with a microfibre cloth, and follow lens hygiene instructions carefully.

Tip: Wash and dry your hands before handling contact lenses, never rinse them with tap water, and replace them on schedule.

4. I Will Schedule Regular Eye Checks

Even if your vision seems fine, regular check-ups detect early signs of eye conditions before you notice symptoms. Eye exams are an important step in protecting long-term vision.

5. I Will Support Global Eye Health

Millions around the world suffer preventable blindness simply because care isn’t accessible. Orbis trains local health workers, delivers treatments, and brings sight-saving care to communities in need.

Tip: Donate, fundraise, or share Orbis UK’s message to help someone see clearly for the first time.

This year, eye will… care, protect, and help others see.

Make 2026 the Year of Seeing Clearly

Your resolutions can go beyond diets or gym goals. By prioritising eye health and supporting global vision initiatives, you’re investing in your future, and helping others see theirs.
