ESCRS

Founded in 1991, ESCRS seeks to promote and support research in the field of intraocular lens implantation and refractive surgery. During the partnership ESCRS has successfully raised awareness of Orbis amongst its membership of over 7,500 people from 130 countries.

Between 2011 – 2016, ESCRS generously donated over £100,000 towards Orbis's work at partner hospitals in Ethiopia and our regional Human Resources for Eye Health programme in East Africa.

The organisation continues to support Orbis with the opportunity to conduct a free paper session and symposium on key eye health issues at their Annual Congress.

In 2019, ESCRS will sponsor three of their young ophthalmologists to travel on the Flying Eye Hospital Associate Programmes to Vietnam and Myanmar and sponsor two ophthalmologists from Ethiopia to attend their 2019 Congress.

Professor Beatrice Cochener-Lamard, President ESCRS (European Society of the Cataract and Refractive Surgeons):

Training and Education are at the heart of the work of both ESCRS and Orbis. The Flying Eye Hospital is an unique facility of Orbis in helping the fight against avoidable blindness around the world. ESCRS is delighted to be able to support this mission by sponsoring ESCRS trainee ophthalmologists to take part in this year’s programme.”
