Statutory and institutional donors

Funding from governments and other institutional donors plays an essential role in delivering Orbis projects that address blindness and visual impairment around the world.

Strengthening health systems, training health professionals and changing eye health-seeking behaviour in communities takes time. Statutory donors typically provide the large multi-year grants that enable Orbis country offices to plan medium and long-term projects that deliver real impact.

From 2015 to date, Orbis UK has benefitted from the support of the following statutory and institutional donors:

Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office

The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (formerly DFID and the FCO) leads the UK government’s efforts to fight global poverty.

Orbis currently holds grants from UK Aid Direct and UK Aid Match funding mechanisms – the former in Ethiopia and the latter in Nepal. We have recently successfully completed another UK Aid Match grant in Zambia.

Qatar fund for development

The Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) ​leads the State of Qatar's international development and foreign aid strategy​.

The State of Qatar’s interest in eye health programmes resulted in the creation of the Qatar Creating Vision initiative, a sight saving programme funded by the Qatar Fund for Development and implemented by Orbis.

Jersey Overseas Aid is an international aid agency funded by The States of Jersey.

JOA has recently provided funding for a comprehensive rural eye care project in Ethiopia and for a Human Resources for Eye Health project in East Africa.
